Celebrating in Menorca with a Pink Gin Story

Every August 24, since our roots took hold in Menorca, we celebrate Teo's birthday. He achieved the milestone of 21 this year, and as is tradition, we adorned ourselves and our humble abode with the whimsy of our chosen theme. A penchant for creativity and costume, our annual celebration is the pinnacle of joyful participation. In the early years, it was mere suggestion, but as tradition grew, so did our commitment - this year, the votive theme was 'Baywatch,' our dwelling transformed into a nostalgic echo of David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson's shooting set.

This year, I found an unexpected delight. In my pursuit and collection of the evening’s fare, I circulated through my favorite spots on the island, each contributing its own specialty dish. Tortilla de Patatas from here, empanadas and croquetas from there, vegetable pizza, and lobster cakes, each dish a testament to its origin, an assemblage of the island's finest for our cherished guests. Places that we will be sharing in this blog.

Among the many novelties that enriched our celebrations, one stood out - the Gin we served, Glop Rosé Gin. Despite my typically restrained approach to alcohol, this gin fascinated me. Captivating in its packaging, car-themed, and beautifully pink, it lured me in, and the taste confirmed it - the bewitching mix of juniper berries, sage, and ginger completed with a chord of strawberry, raspberry, rose petals, and grapefruit was undeniably the finest I had ever tried.

The gastronomic rebel in us opted to mix it with Fanta lemon, a twist from the classic Menorcan Pomada mix, garnished with red fruits. The result was nothing short of a tantalizing triumph.

In anticipation, we procured 10 bottles from Biniarbolla Store, a place in Es Castell, tempting me with their range that I wished I could engulf entirely. Still, instead, they offered a memento - a bag adorned with their distinct car logo, pink, matching my fondness for the color.

As the sun set on a night of laughter and shared memories, the votes from enthralled attendees set the theme for 2024 - Barbie. An homage to our favorite hue, we now eagerly await and embrace the promise of even more pink. A whimsical challenge we accept – to go so far as to install a car in the garden if we can!"
