Arjau: Command the Ship's Helm and Savor the Best Lobster with Eggs and Fries in Menorca

After 6 months of living in Menorca, we return to Barcelona tomorrow, and tonight calls for a special event to bid farewell to the island. It took us only a short time to decide: we'll go for the best lobster dish with fried potatoes and eggs in Menorca at Arjau.

Lobster is an exquisite delicacy now, but in Menorca, it used to be accessible to all, resulting in many tasty recipes. Today, "Caldereta de langosta," lobster rice dishes, and lobster with fried eggs and potatoes stand out as traditional dishes.

We've tried them in several places, but the one at Arjau stands out.

The traditional version is fried, but Max at Arjau makes it exceptional with a sauce so good it's tear-jerking. It's the first dish we dig into whenever we arrive in April each year: we head straight to Arjau for the lobster.

It started 3 years ago when we visited Menorca in the heart of winter. All the restaurants were closed, but we stumbled upon Arjau, which was open. Since then, it has been our favorite place. Max and Albert are a delight and care for their regular customers.

They specialize in rice dishes, and they are sensational! But our favorite dishes, besides the lobster, include the flatbread with foie and mango, the giant Menorcan prawns, and the Thai salad, a new addition this year after Max spent a few months in Thailand.

I cannot forget to mention the cheesecake, which, although not my favorite, my husband would likely eat ten slices if he could. Albert, Max's right-hand man in the restaurant, makes them with lots of love.

Call to reserve before going; they're always at total capacity.
